August 1, 2003 Nicholas is still in a coma, but Praise be to God, he is getting better an inch at a time. It will be a long road home but God is working his behalf and we are so encouraged about that. I must thank you so much for your prayers they are definitely working as you will see in this update. Keep praying!
Nicholas was moving his thumb today! They took the central line to Nicolas’s heart out that went up through his leg. His pressure is 7 (Praise God!) and they took the thing out that measures the pressure. He can hear, because when they tell him to open his mouth or something he will do it for them. (God is so good!) They had to put a feeding tube in his stomach.
They took the staples out of his head, where they had peeled his face down to check out the bones that were crushed. His eyes are open, but he can only move one of them, so they will more than likely have to repair his optical nerve. They have to do another CAT scan on him today, this time of his face to check the bones out more so he can have his reconstruction surgery. We were mistaken about him having that surgery the day of his accident. They think also that he may have broken both jawbones. They will have to put metal plates behind his sinuses since the sinuses went into his brain, and in all probility they do the same to his cheekbones.
