Staff Sgt. Christopher N. Piper, 43, of Marblehead, Mass. He died on June16th, 2005 at the Brooke Army Medical Center, Fort Sam Houston, Texas, from injuries sustained on June 3 when an improvised explosive device detonated near his military vehicle in Orgun-E, Afghanistan. He was assigned the 1st Battalion, 7th Special Forces Group, Fort Bragg, N.C. Spc. Anthony S. Cometa, 21, of Las Vegas, Nev. He died June 16th, 2005 in Safwan, Kuwait, when his HMMWV rolled over. He was assigned to the Army National Guard's 1864th Transportation Company, 106th Transportation Battalion, Henderson, Nev. Lance Cpl. Chad B. Maynard, 19, of Montrose, Colo. He died June 15th, 2005 15, as a result of enemy small arms fire while conducting combat operations in al-Anbar province, Iraq. He died on June 18th, 2005 in Baqubah, Iraq, from injuries sustained on June 17 in Buritz, Iraq, when he was conducting a mounted patrol and their HMMWV was attacked by enemy forces using rocket-propelled grenades. Harris was assigned to the Army's 2nd Battalion, 69th Armor Regiment, 3rd Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Benning, Ga. Cpl. William A. Long, 26, of Lilburn, Ga. He died on June 18th, 2005 in Baqubah, Iraq, from injuries sustained on June 17 in Buritz, Iraq, when he was conducting a mounted patrol and their HMMWV was attacked by enemy forces using rocket-propelled grenades. Stockdale, Medal of Honor recipient, former Viet Nam prisoner of war (POW), naval aviator and test pilot, academic, and American hero died today, July 5, 2005, at his home in Coronado, Calif. He was 81 years old and had been battling Alzheimer's disease. SSgt. Shamus O. Goare, 29, of Danville, Ohio. He died June 28th, 2005. Cariaga, 20, of Honolulu, Hawaii He died on July 5th, 2005, in Al Hammadi, Iraq, when the HMMWV in which he was riding struck a land mine. Cariaga was assigned to the Army National Guard's 229th Military Intelligence Company, 29th Separate Infantry Brigade, Oahu, Kalaeloa, Hawaii. Petty Officer 2nd Class Matthew G. Axelson, 29, of Cupertino, Calif He died while conducting counter-terrorism operations in Kunar province, Afghanistan. Coalition forces located the service member while conducting a combat search and rescue operation July 10th, 2005 in Kunar province. Axelson was assigned to SEAL Delivery Vehicle Team ONE, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. Spc. Hoby F. Bradfield Jr., 22, of The Woodlands, Texas, died July 9th, 2005 in Tal Afar, Iraq while he was conducting a dismounted cordon search. Bradfield was assigned to the Army's 2nd Squadron, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment, Fort Carson, Colo. Lance Cpl. Kevin B. Joyce, 19, of Ganado, Ariz. He died June 25th, 2005 after falling into the Pech River while conducting combat operations in Afghanistan. He was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force, Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii. Pfc. Eric P. Woods, 26, of Omaha, Neb., died on July 9th, 2005 in Tal Afar, Iraq. His HMMWV struck an improvised explosive device that caused the vehicle to overturn. Woods was in the area to evacuate another soldier who had been wounded. Woods was assigned to the 2nd Squadron, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment, Fort Carson, Colo. Sgt. Timothy J. Sutton, 22, of Springfield, Mo., died on July 11th, 2005 in Baghdad, Iraq, where his HMMWV struck a land mine. Sutton was assigned to the Army's 3rd Squadron, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment, Fort Carson, Colo. Spc. Ryan J. Montgomery, 22, of Greensburg, Ky. He died July 3rd, 2005 in Baghdad, Iraq, when an improvised explosive device detonated near his HMMWV while his unit was conducting convoy operations. Brown was assigned to the Army's 66th Military Intelligence Company, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment, Fort Carson, Colo. Petty Officer 2nd Class Danny P. Dietz, 25, of Littleton, Colo. He died while conducting counter-terrorism operations in Kunar Province, Afghanistan. Coalition forces located the service member while conducting a combat search and rescue operation July 4th, in Kunar Province. His whereabouts had been unknown since June 28th. Dietz was assigned to SEAL Delivery Vehicle Team Two, Virginia Beach, Va. Lt. Michael P. Murphy, 29, of Patchogue, N.Y. He died while conducting counter-terrorism operations in Kunar Province, Afghanistan. Coalition forces located the service member while conducting a combat search and rescue operation July 4th, in Kunar Province. His whereabouts had been unknown since June 28th. He died July 5th, in Baqubah, Iraq, when an improvised explosive device detonated near his patrol. Dickison was assigned to the Army's 2nd Battalion, 34th Armor Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kan. Spc. Benyahmin B. Yahudah, 24, of Bogart, Ga.. He died on July 13th, 2005 in Baghdad, Iraq, where a vehicle borne improvised explosive device detonated near his dismounted patrol. Yahudah was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 64th Armor Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Stewart, Ga. Sgt. Travis S. Cooper, 24, of Macon, Miss. He died on July 16th, 2005, in Balad, Iraq, from wounds sustained the previous day in Baghdad, Iraq, when an inprovised explosive device exploded near the vehicle he was searching. Cooper was assigned to the Army National Guard's 2nd Battalion, 114th Field Artillery Regiment, Starkville, Miss. Spc. Jared D. Hartley, 22, of Newkirk, Okla. He died July 15th, 2005 in Taji, Iraq, when an improvised explosive device detonated near his HMMWV. Hartley was assigned to the 125th Forward Support Battalion, 3rd Brigade, 1st Armored Division, Fort Riley, Kan. Pfc. Timothy J. Hines, Jr., 21, of Fairfield, Ohio. He died on July 14th, 2005 at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Washington, D.C., from wounds sustained on June 19 in Baghdad, Iraq, when an improvised explosive device detonated near his HMMWV. Hines was assigned to the 64th Military Police Company, 720th Military Police Battalion, 89th Military Police Brigade, Fort Hood, Texas. Staff Sgt. Tricia L. Jameson, 34, of Omaha, Neb. She died on July 14th, 2005 in Trebil, Iraq. Jameson, a health care specialist was responding to a casualty incident when a secondary improvised explosive device detonated near her location. Jameson was assigned to 313th Medical Company, Army National Guard, Lincoln, Neb. Staff Sgt. Frank Tiai, 45, of Pago Pago, American Samoa. He died July 17th, 2005 in Baghdad, Iraq, when an improvised explosive device detonated near his position. Tiai was assigned to the Army Reserve's 100th Battalion, 442nd Infantry, Fort Shafter, Hawaii. Sgt. Jason T. Palmerton, 25, of Auburn, Neb. He died on July 23rd, 2005 in Qal'eh-Yegaz, Afghanistan, where he came under enemy small arms fire while conducting a dismounted patrol. Palmerton was assigned to 1st Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne), Fort Bragg, N.C. Sgt. Christopher J. Taylor, 22, of Opelika, Ala. He died July 24th, 2005 in Balad, Iraq, when he was hit by mortar rounds while he was exiting a bunker. Taylor was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 41st Field Artillery, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Stewart, Ga. Spc. Adam J. Harting, 21, of Portage, Ind. He died July 25th, 2005 in Samarra, Iraq, when an improvised explosive device detonated near his Bradley Fighting Vehicle. Harting was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 69th Armor Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 42nd Infantry Division, Fort Stewart, Ga. Staff Sgt. Michael W. Schafer, 25, of Spring Hill, Fla. He died July 25th, 2005 in Oruzgan, Afghanistan, when he was shot by enemy forces while on a quick reaction force mission. Schafer was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 503rd Infantry Regiment, Vicenza, Italy. Pvt. Ernesto R. Guerra, 20, of Long Beach, Calif. He died July 29th, 2005 in Baghdad, Iraq, of injuries sustained on July 28 in Baghdad, Iraq, when his HMMWV was involved in an accident. Guerra was assigned to the Army's 4-3rd Brigade Troops Battalion, 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Stewart, Ga. Lance Cpl. Christopher P. Lyons, 24, of Shelby, Ohio. He died July 28th, 2005 when his unit came under attack by enemy small-arms fire and rocket-propelled grenades while conducting combat operations in Cykla, Iraq. He was assigned to the Marine Reserve's 3rd Battalion, 25th Marine Regiment, 4th Marine Division, Columbus, Ohio. Spc. Edward L. Myers, 21, of St. Joseph, Mo. He died July 27th, 2005 in Samarra, Iraq, where his unit was conducting patrol operations and an improvised explosive device detonated near his HMMWV. Myers was assigned to the Army's 3rd Battalion, 69th Armor Regiment, 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Stewart, Ga. The Department of Defense announced today the death of four soldiers who were supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom. They died on July 24, in Baghdad, Iraq, where an improvised explosive device detonated near their HMMWV while they were on patrol. The soldiers were assigned to the Army National Guard's 2nd Battalion, 121st Infantry Regiment, 48th Infantry Brigade, Albany, Ga. Killed were: Capt. Benjamin D. Jansky, 28, of Oshkosh, Wis., died July 27 in Al Taqaddum, Iraq, where his HMMWV was accidentally struck by another military vehicle. Bell was assigned to Marine Forces Reserve's 3rd Battalion, 25th Marine Regiment, 4th Marine Division, Columbus, Ohio. Bernholtz was assigned to Marine Forces Reserve's 3rd Battalion, 25th Marine Regiment, 4th Marine Division, Columbus, Ohio. Kreuter, 26, of Cincinnati, Ohio. He died August 3rd, 2005 when their Amphibious Assault Vehicle was attacked by an improvised explosive device while conducting combat operations south of Haditha, Iraq. He died on Sept. 5th, 2005 in Baghdad, Iraq, when the HMMWV he was riding in accidentally rolled over into a ditch. He died Sept. 15th, 2005 from an explosion resulting from indirect fire at Forward Operating Base, Camp Ramadi, Iraq.
