Teen Kills Parents, Grandma, Stranger, Dies in Crash

ELKHORN CITY, Ky.

A 17-year-old who was sent home from school for being intoxicated shot his parents and grandmother to death, then died in a crash after police attempted to pull him over on a highway, authorities said. Another driver also was killed. The teen of Elkhorn Creek, a senior at East Ridge High School who authorities said had never been in trouble. That afternoon, a friend of the youth notified authorities of the shootings. "He just told me he killed them," Christa Coleman, 18, told the Lexington Herald-Leader. "He said they had caught him with drugs and weed at school today. They had a drug test and he failed it, and when they tried to arrest him, he ran." She said Hackney asked her if he could hide out at her home for a few days "and I told him, 'No way.'"

The bodies of the father, Ivan, 47, and the mother, Shirley, 44, and the grandmother, Wilma, 63, were found at the teen's home. A paramedic for the Elkhorn City Ambulance Service said they were all shot multiple times, apparently with a large-caliber rifle. State Troopers spotted the teen on a highway and attempted to stop him, but he lost control and crashed head-on into a pickup truck, killing a man, 41, an Elkhorn City employee. The teen had taken five Ultrams, a prescription painkiller.

Student Kills Asst. Principal in School Shooting

JACKSBORO, Tenn.

A teenager shot and killed an assistant principal and seriously wounded two other administrators at a high school on Tuesday, officials said. The student was arrested. Assistant Principal was shot in the chest just after 2 p.m. and died soon after at a hospital, law enforcement and school officials said.

The suspect was grazed in the hand by a bullet fired from his own .22-caliber handgun during a scuffle with the administrators and an unidentified teacher who helped wrestle the gun away, the sheriff said. No other students were injured. The Principal was shot in the lower abdomen, and was in serious condition. The other Assistant Principal was shot in the chest and he died later in the day.
