Blessing the Children

Blessing the Children

As the throngs of people listened to Jesus teaching, parents began to push through The crowds with their children. They kept bringing infants and young children to Him that He might touch them. The disciples were watching this and reproved the people for their boldness. But when Jesus saw it, He was indignant and pained, and said to them. “Allow the children to come to Me. Do not forbid or prevent or hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God. Truly I tell you whoever does not receive and accept and welcome the kingdom of God as a little child does positively shall not enter it at all.

And Jesus took the children up one by one in His arms and fervently invoked a blessing, placing His Hand upon them. The little children snuggled close against in His chest reveling in His presence. Many of the little ones kiss his cheek as they climbed off His lap, and Jesus, His loving eyes sparkling with joy said to them. “I will never, ever forsake or leave you.”
Parents stood back and watched as each little one was blessed. Many of them had tears of joy running down their cheeks. They knew that just that one touch from Jesus would change their children’s lives for forever.

As the little ones walked back to their parents, the older children came and stood in line to be blessed. He touched each one and blessed them, then He told instructed them in righteousness. He asked them to repeat after Him as He recited the Ten Commandments:

1. You shall not have no other gods before Me or besides Me.
2. You shall not make yourself any graven image to worship it, or any likeness of anything that is in the heavens above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. You shall not bow down yourself to them or serve them; for I the Lord you God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generation of those who hate Me. But showing mercy and steadfast love to a thousand generations of those who do love Me and keep my commandments.
3. You shall not use or repeat the name of the Lord your God in vain, that is to lightly or frivolously, in false affirmations or profanely; for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain.
4. Earnestly remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy--withdrawn from common employment and dedicated to God. Six days you shall labor and do al your work, but the seventh day is a sabbath to the Lord your God; in it you shall not do any work, you or your son, your daughter, your manservant, our maidservant, your domestic animals, or the sojourner within your gates. For in six days the Lord made the heavens, earth, sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. This is why the Lord blessed the sabbath day and hallowed it-- set it apart for His purposes.
5. Regard-- treat with honor, due obedience and courtesy your father and mother, that your days may be long in the land the Lord your God gives you.
6. You shall not commit murder.
7. You shall not commit adultry.
8. You shall not steal.
9. You shall not witness falsely against your neighbor
10. You shall not covet your neighbor's house, your neighbor's wife, or his manservant, or his maidservant, or his ox, or his donkey, or anything that is your neighbor's.
